foot·note [ ft nt ]


noun  (plural foot·notes)
Definition:
 
1. information at foot of page: a note at the bottom of a page, giving further information about something mentioned in the text above. A reference number or symbol is usually printed after the relevant word in the text and before the corresponding footnote.

2. additional detail: an extra comment or information added to what has just been said
As a footnote, let me say that I only found this out yesterday.

3. minor detail: a relatively unimportant part of a larger issue or event
His career is now just a footnote in history.
