Definition:
 
1. wind instrument with high sound: a woodwind instrument with a cylindrical narrow body, usually held out to the right of the player, who blows across a hole in the mouthpiece to generate a high-pitched sound. The flute family includes the piccolo, the alto flute, and the bass flute.
