1. advocate of cause: a supporter or promoter of a cause

2. explainer of something: somebody who explains or interprets something
an exponent of Kant's philosophy

3. practitioner of art or skill: a performer or practitioner of an art or skill, especially somebody who is regarded as an excellent example of how something should be done
an exponent of the rococo style

4. mathematics number indicating multiplication: a number or variable placed to the upper right of a number or mathematical expression that indicates the number of times the number or expression is to be multiplied by itself, as in 23, which equals 8
