Cultural Note

From Here to Eternity, a movie (1953) by director Fred Zinnemann. Based on James Jones's 1951 novel of the same name, it depicts the lives of U.S. military personnel in Hawaii immediately prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. It is perhaps best remembered for a scene in which Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr embrace in the surf.
