Spelling Note

envelope or envelop? Do not confuse the spelling of envelope and envelop, which are spelled similarly but have different pronunciations. The verb envelop, meaning "wrap," "hide," or "surround," is stressed on the middle syllable. The noun envelope has an "e" at each end and is stressed on the first and last syllables.
