eliminate

Definition:
 
1. get rid of something: to put an end to something, usually something undesirable
They are pledged to eliminate poverty by the end of the century.

2. reject somebody or something: to decide to exclude somebody or something from further consideration
The police eliminated him from the list of suspects.

3. sports defeat somebody in competition: to defeat a player or team and put them out of a competition ( usually passive )
The local team was eliminated in the first round.

4. murder somebody: to kill an opponent

5. physiology get rid of bodily waste: to expel waste from the body ( technical )

6. mathematics remove mathematical variable: to remove variables from two or more simultaneous mathematical equations by combining the equations
