1. large animal with long trunk: a very large gray or grayish brown animal with a long flexible trunk, prominent ears, thick legs, and pointed tusks. Native to: Africa, South Asia.  Latin name Loxodonta africana, Loxodonta cyclotis, Elephas maximus.

2. paleontology extinct animal: an extinct animal to which modern elephants are related
