large plant-eating sea mammal: a large plant-eating sea mammal, related to the manatee. It has a two-lobed tail, a cleft upper lip, forelimbs resembling flippers, and tusks in the male. Native to: shallow tropical coastal waters.  Latin name Dugong dugon.
