noun  (plural drums)
Definition:
 
1. percussion instrument: a musical instrument usually consisting of a membrane stretched across a hollow frame and played by striking the stretched membrane. Other hollow objects are also used as drums.

2. tapping sound: a regular tapping sound made by something striking a surface
the drum of rain on the roof

3. cylindrical container: a large cylindrical container used for storing liquids such as oil or chemicals

4. spool: a large spool around which wire, cable, or rope is wound for storage

5. hollow part in machine: a cylindrical hollow part in a machine such as a clothes drier
