Definition:
 
1. transitive verb put something briefly in liquid: to put something briefly into a liquid or soft mixture and take it out again
She dipped her fingers in the water.

2. intransitive verb move downward: to sink to a lower level
The plane dipped and then flew on.

3. transitive verb lower something: to lower something and raise it again
The horse dipped its head.

4. transitive verb lower somebody over one arm: while dancing, to lower a partner toward the floor over one arm

5. intransitive verb become less: to fall to a lower level or amount, especially for a short time
Prices dipped at the beginning of October.

6. transitive and intransitive verb put your hand in: to put your hand into something in order to take something out
He dipped his hand into his pocket.
