1. despairing: overwhelmed with urgency and anxiety, to the point of losing hope

2. as last resort: so drastic or reckless as to be suitable only for a last resort

3. extreme: extremely difficult, serious, or dangerous
a desperate shortage of food and water

4. in great need: wanting or needing something very much
Desperate for an answer, she phoned again.

5. beyond hope: so wicked as to allow no hope of redemption

6. awful: extremely bad ( informal )
