1. beginning of liberation of Europe: June 6, 1944, the day on which Allied forces landed in northern France to begin the liberation of occupied Europe in World War II

2. day when operation is to begin: a day chosen for the beginning of a military operation or other major venture

3. military start of 2003 Iraq ground war: March 19, 2003, the day on which ground operations began during the War in Iraq, involving invading coalition forces of the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, and some other countries
