contraband

con·tra·band [ kóntrə bànd ]

Definition:
 
1. illegal imports and exports: goods that are illegally imported or exported, e.g. goods that evade duty or are prohibited by law from being taken into or out of a country
dealers in contraband

2. illegal trade: illegal trade, especially the illegal importing or exporting of goods

3. supplies forbidden to warring sides: goods that a neutral country must not supply to either side in a war

4.  (plural con·tra·bands) slave entering Union territory: a slave who escaped to, or was taken behind, Union lines during the Civil War
