Definition:
 
1. dependent on what may happen: dependent on or resulting from a future and as yet unknown event or circumstance
Payment is contingent upon winning the case.

2. possible but not certain: possible, but not certain to happen

3. chance: happening by chance

4. logic true only under certain conditions: true only under some conditions or under existing conditions, and therefore not universally true or valid
