1. proving something wrong: the act of proving conclusively that somebody is wrong or that something is false, invalid, or faulty
The lawyer's confutation of the witness's testimony was decisive.

2. something that refutes something else: a fact, observation, or piece of evidence proving that somebody is wrong or that something is false, invalid, or faulty ( often used in the plural )
