1. city in western California, a northern suburb of the Oakland-San Francisco area, northeast of Berkeley.

2. town in northeastern Massachusetts, west of Boston, on the Concord River. On April 19, 1775, it was the site of the first military encounter of the Revolution.

3. capital of New Hampshire, in the south of the state, on the Merrimack River.

4. city in southwestern North Carolina, northeast of Charlotte. It was a gold-mining town in the 18th century.
