liquid causing unconsciousness: a colorless sweet-smelling toxic liquid that rapidly changes to a vapor and causes unconsciousness if inhaled. It is now known to have damaging effects on the ozone layer. Use: formerly, solvent, cleaning agent, anesthetic. CHCl3
