Definition:
 
a rod-shaped structure in cell: in an animal cell, a two-part rod-shaped structure with the parts lying at right angles to each other, located in pairs near the nucleus. During cell division, centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell and form the poles of the spindle fibers that pull the chromosomes apart.
