Cen·tral Af·ri·can Re·pub·lic [ sèntrəl àffrikən ri púbblik ] landlocked country in central Africa. Formerly part of French Equatorial Africa, it became independent in 1960. It is bordered by Chad, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, and Cameroon. Languages: French. Currency: CFA franc. Capital: Bangui.
