Definition:
 
1. biology basic unit of living thing: the smallest independently functioning unit in the structure of an organism, usually consisting of one or more nuclei surrounded by cytoplasm and enclosed by a membrane. Cells also contain organelles such as mitochondria, lysosomes, and ribosomes.

2. room for holding prisoner: a room in a prison, in which one or more prisoners are confined, or a small room in a police station, used to confine somebody who has been arrested

3. small room: a very small and simple room, especially in a monastery or convent

4. small enclosed structure: a small contained or hollow unit in a structure, e.g. a compartment in a honeycomb or the reproductive organs of a plant, or an area on an insect's wing

5. electricity engineering something that produces electricity: a device that produces electrical energy by the chemical action of electrodes in an electrolyte
