Definition:
 
large bird: a bird with long legs, a round body, a long neck, and a fairly short beak. Native to: open grassy land in southern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.  Family Otididae.

[15th century. Probably < assumed Anglo-Norman bustarde, blend of bistarde + oustarde, both < Latin avis tarda "slow bird"]
