Spelling Note

boar or bore? Do not confuse the spelling of boar and bore, which sound similar. The word boar is only used as a noun, denoting an animal. The word bore is principally used as a verb, meaning "cause to lose interest" or "make a hole": I won't bore you with the details. The insects bore through the bark. It is also the past tense of the verb bear: I bore them no ill will. As a noun, bore denotes an uninteresting person or thing, the internal diameter of a pipe or gun barrel, or a large powerful wave.
