1. freshwater midge larva: the red larva of a freshwater midge. Genus Chironomus.

2. reddish worm used as fishing bait: a reddish segmented worm often used as fishing bait. Genera Tubifex, Polycirrus.


Regional History

Although recorded from Canada throughout the Middle Atlantic states, bloodworm is most frequently used in New Jersey.
