Spelling Note

bloc or block? Do not confuse the spelling of bloc and block, which sound similar. A bloc is a group of countries or political parties with a common aim. The word block has a much wider range of meanings and uses: As a noun it may denote a lump, a square object, a large building, or an obstruction (as in a block of wood, an office block); as a verb it principally means "obstruct" (as in roads blocked by snow).
