Cultural Note


	The Birthday Party, a play (1958) by British dramatist Harold Pinter. It tells of a young man called Stanley whose comfortable life in a seaside boarding house is disrupted by the arrival of two mysterious and intimidating strangers, Goldberg and McCann. Noted for its sinisterly formal dialogue, the play creates a disturbing atmosphere of paranoia and fear.
