bat·ten [ bátt'n ]


noun  (plural bat·tens)
Definition:
 
1. sailing strip for keeping sails in shape: a thin flexible strip of wood or plastic inserted in pockets in a sail to keep it in shape or support the edge

2. nautical slat for fastening down tarpaulin: a narrow metal or wooden slat used to fasten down the edges of a tarpaulin covering a boat's raised hatch in poor weather

3. theater lights in theater: a row of lights in a theater, or the strip or bar that holds it
