ballade

bal·lade [ bə ld, ba ld ] (plural bal·lades)


noun 
Definition:
 
1. poem with refrain: a poem consisting of three stanzas of eight or ten lines and a short concluding explanatory stanza envoy, all of which end with the same refrain

2. instrumental piece suggesting story: an instrumental piece of music, usually for piano, intended to suggest the telling of a story as in a ballad. The best-known ballades in the classical repertoire are by Chopin and Brahms.
