backhand

back·hand [ bák hànd ]


noun  (plural back·hands)
Definition:
 
1. racket games backhanded stroke: in tennis and other racket games, a stroke made with the back of the hand turned toward the ball or shuttlecock as the arm moves outward from a position across the body

2. racket games side for backhands: the side of a tennis or other racket court, or of the body, on which a player would naturally play a backhand. It is the left-hand side for a right-handed player.

3. baseball catch made on backhand side: in baseball, a catch made with the catcher's hand, in a mitt, held across his or her body

4. handwriting sloping leftward: a style of handwriting in which the letters slope to the left
