at [ stressed at, unstressed ət ] CORE MEANING: a preposition used to indicate general position or location. In order to be more precise about exact physical location, other prepositions such as "on," "over," "under," and "by" are used instead.

The symbol @ means "at," and until the 1990s it was mainly used in commercial or technical contexts: 25 lbs @ $3.50 per lb;150 miles @ 30 mph. Its most familiar use today, however, is in e-mail addresses, where it usually comes between the user's personal screen name and the domain name of his or her organization or Internet service provider: rtjackson@scotrack.com.
