Aq·ui·taine [ ákwi tàyn ] region of southwestern France. It includes the departments of Dordogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne, and Pyrénées-Atlantiques. It corresponds roughly to the Roman administrative region of Aquitania. Capital: Bordeaux. Population: 3,123,000 (2007 estimate).
