1. valuate something: to make or give an estimate of how much money something is worth

2. assess merits or quality: to form or give an opinion of somebody's merits or something's quality

3. human resources assess somebody formally: to make a formal assessment of an employee or an employee's performance following an agreed set of criteria

appraise or apprise?

Appraise, meaning "to evaluate," is used with reference to people or (more usually) the things they do or achieve: She appraised their work at the end of each week.Apprise, meaning "to inform," is a more formal word, and is used with reference to people: He apprised them of the decisions.
