although

al·though [ awl ṓ ]

conj
Definition:

notwithstanding that: granting or in spite of the fact that
Although the children were sleepy, they kept watching the movie.

[14th century. <all in the sense "even" + though]

Word Usage
although or though?

In many uses although and though are interchangeable, but though is generally more versatile, in that it can occupy different positions in a sentence with more grammatical flexibility. It is the only choice in the phrases as though and even though, and in the following types of uses: I don't like them, though. It is true, though, that they have been kind to us.The chair, though damaged, could still be used.We enjoyed the day outside, cold though it was.

Word Usage
although or however?

Do not use the conjunction although as a substitute for the adverb however. However is used to add contrasting and surprising information, and, unlike although, is followed by a comma when it is used as a conjunction, e.g., We were from different backgrounds. However, we got along really well. and We got along very well, although we were from different backgrounds.
