| Al·le·ghe·ny Moun·tains [ àllə gáynee mòwnt'nz ] or Al·le·ghe·nies [ àllə gáyneez ] western mountain range of the Appalachian Mountains, in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. The range is the divide between those rivers emptying into the Gulf of Mexico and those flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. The highest peak is Spruce Knob 1,482 m (4,861ft). |
