Word Usage
afflict or inflict?

The chief difference is in the grammatical construction: you inflict something unpleasant on somebody, whereas you afflict somebody with something unpleasant (or, more usually, somebody is afflictedwith or by something unpleasant): They promoted measures to avoid inflicting further harm on the environment.The population was afflicted by a series of natural disasters.
