intransitive verb  (past and past participle waned, present participle wan·ing, 3rd person present singular wanes)
Definition:
 
1. show less lighted area: to show a decreasing illuminated surface between a full moon and new moon

2. get smaller or less: to decrease gradually in intensity or power
