Definition:
 
1. something that delays progress: something that reverses or delays the progress of somebody or something

2. shelf or recess in wall: a place in the wall of a building where there is a shelf or recess

3. mechanical engineering thermostat reduction: an automatic adjustment made by a thermostat to reduce a temperature, e.g. in a domestic heating system at night

4. law distance from building to property line: the distance required by law between the edge of a building and the property line
