noun  (plural sales)
Definition:
 
1. selling of something: the transfer of something to the ownership or use of somebody else, or the provision of something, e.g. a service, in exchange for an agreed amount of money
The sale of alcohol to children is illegal.

2. opportunity to buy goods at discount: a period of time when a store sells goods at reduced prices, often in order to clear its stock
We always look for bargains at the after-Christmas sales.

3. opportunity to buy secondhand goods: an event at which personal possessions or other secondhand items are sold, usually at low prices, sometimes to raise money for a charitable or other cause

4. auction: an event at which goods are sold to the highest bidder

5. amount sold or rate of selling: a quantity of things sold, or the rate at which they are sold
disappointed by the slow sale of the new model

6. market or demand: demand that creates an opportunity to sell something
found no sale for the goods at that price
