Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb fight against somebody or something: to oppose and stand firm against somebody or something

2. transitive verb refuse to give in to something: to refuse to accept or comply with something
resisted all attempts to force them out of their homes

3. transitive verb be unharmed by something: to remain unaltered by the damaging effect of something
ability to resist infection

4. transitive and intransitive verb say no to something tempting: to refrain from something in spite of being tempted
