Definition:
 
1. safeguarding of somebody or something: the act of preventing somebody or something from being harmed or damaged, or the state of being kept safe

2. something that protects somebody or something: something that prevents somebody or something from being harmed or damaged

3. insurance coverage: an agreement by an insurance company to pay compensation or costs if a specific undesirable event occurs

4. promise of safety from criminal attack: a promise made by a gangster or other person that somebody or something will not be harmed or damaged if money is paid, or the payment extorted in return for such a promise ( informal )

5. crime criminals' bribery of law enforcement officials: the bribery of law enforcement officials by criminals in an effort to escape prosecution, or the bribe paid ( informal )

6. condom: a form of contraception, usually a condom, used during sexual intercourse to prevent sperm or disease-causing organisms from entering the body

7. guarantee of freedom and safety: a document that enables somebody to travel around in freedom and safety, especially in another country or in enemy territory

8. economics
