Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb say or write something: to refer to something when speaking or writing, often in a brief or casual way
I happened to mention your name to her.
He mentioned that the word was spelled wrongly.

2. transitive verb cite somebody for bravery: to refer to somebody by name in an official report as a way of acknowledging exceptional conduct, especially during a military action
