Definition:
 
1. intransitive verb intervene to resolve conflict: to work with both sides in a dispute in an attempt to help them to reach an agreement
mediating between the government and the rebels

2. transitive verb oversee agreement: to oversee an attempt to solve a dispute by working with both sides to help them to reach an agreement
appointed to mediate the talks
