transitive and intransitive verb 
Definition:
 
1. soak in sauce before cooking: to be placed or soaked in a marinade, or place or soak food in a marinade

2. give or undergo lengthy exposure: to be exposed to something for a long time, or cause somebody or something to be thoroughly immersed in something
marinated in history
