Definition:
 
1. fastening mechanism: a mechanism used to fasten or secure a door, window, or lid, especially one operated by a key

2. gated section of canal: a short section of a canal or river in which the water level can be altered to enable boats to pass to a higher or lower part of the waterway. The lock has gates at each end with a mechanism for letting water in or out.

3. wrestling hold: a wrestling hold in which a wrestler twists or puts pressure on part of the other wrestler's body

4. gun part: the part of a gun that makes the charge explode

5. blocking device: a device that prevents an unauthorized person from using something, e.g. one operated by a password

6. firm possession: firm possession or control of something
a manufacturer with a lock on the market for luxury trucks

7. rugby player in rugby scrum: either of the two players in the second row in a rugby scrum

1. transitive and intransitive verb fasten with lock: to fasten something or become fastened using a lock

2. transitive verb put something in secure place: to put something into a safe place or container that can be locked

3. transitive verb secure place: to make a building or vehicle secure by locking the doors and windows

4. transitive verb prevent unauthorized use: to prevent something from being used by an unauthorized person, e.g. via software
