Definition:
 
1. transitive verb let somebody borrow something: to allow somebody to take or use something on the understanding that it will be returned later

2. transitive and intransitive verb give somebody money for limited time: to allow a person or business to use a sum of money for a particular period of time, usually on condition that a charge interest is paid in return

3. transitive verb add something: to give a particular quality or character to something
The candles lend an air of intimacy to the room.
