Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb shake or jerk violently: to shake or jerk suddenly and violently, or make somebody or something shake or jerk suddenly and violently, especially as a result of a sudden movement

2. transitive verb startle somebody into reality: to startle somebody out of a daydream, fantasy, or other state of semiawareness
