1. transitive and intransitive verb train somebody: to teach somebody a subject or how to do something

2. transitive verb direct somebody: to tell somebody to do something, especially with authority or as an order

3. transitive verb give somebody information: to inform somebody about something, especially in a formal or official manner
The judge instructed the jurors that they could consider a lesser charge.

4. transitive verb law brief jury at end of case: to give information as a judge to a jury at the end of a case in order to explain the applicable points of law and summarize what has to be proved

5. transitive verb U.K. obtain legal representation: to ask or authorize a lawyer to act on your behalf and supply him or her with relevant information
