Definition:
 
1. what stays in somebody's mind: a lasting effect, opinion, or mental image of somebody or something
I made a bad impression by arriving late for the interview.

2. general idea: a belief about or understanding of something
I was under the impression that they were married.

3. pressed-in shape: a pattern, design, or mark made by something hard being pressed onto something softer
The intruder's boots had left an impression in the mud.

4. imitating of somebody: an entertainment in which a performer mimics the way a well-known person speaks and behaves, usually in a humorous or exaggerated way
