Definition:
 
1. geology very hard quartz that makes sparks: a very hard grayish black fine-grained form of quartz that produces a spark when struck with steel. It occurs as nodules and bands in chalk. Flint was used in prehistoric times to make tools.

2. prehistory tool made of fine-grained quartz: a piece of fine-grained quartz shaped into a tool by prehistoric people

3. spark-making rock: a piece of flint used to make a spark

4. part of cigarette lighter: the part of a cigarette lighter, consisting of a small iron alloy cylinder, that makes a spark
