Definition:
 
1. chemistry compound separable into ions in solution: a chemical compound that separates into ions in a solution or when molten, and is able to conduct electricity

2. chemistry ion in electrolyte: an ion in an electrolyte

3. physiology ion in cell: any ion in cells, blood, or other organic material. Electrolytes help to control fluid levels in the body, maintain normal pH levels, and ensure the correct electric potential between nerve cells that enables the transmission of nerve signals.
