Spelling Note

dual or duel? Do not confuse the spelling of dual and duel, which sound similar. Dual is chiefly used as an adjective, meaning "having two elements or aspects" or "double," as in dual citizenship, a dual-purpose device. Duel is chiefly used as a noun, denoting a fight between two people: He took offense at this remark and challenged the man to a duel.
